About

(stat´ik nat) (n.) A type of NAT in which a private IP address is mapped to a public IP address, where the public address is always the same IP address (i.e., it has a static address). This allows an internal host, such as a Web server, to have an unregistered (private) IP address and still be reachable over the Internet.

My Name is Josh O’Brien and I am your host here at StaticNAT.com. I am a Network Engineer in Columbus, Ohio. I have been part of the IT community since the summer of 1996 when I started as a student applications support specialist with Ohio University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. Since then I have worked part and full time for various Ohio University technical departments. While at Ohio University I was a student in the Communications Systems Management Program. During my time at OU I participated in an internship program with First Energy Corp. in Akron, Ohio as a member of Internet provisioning team. After leaving OU I spent one year with Whitehat Mangement LLC in Akron, Ohio as a Novell/Cisco Administrator and Desktop Deployment Specialist. Following that unfortunate year in my career I moved on to work for the State of Ohio in the Department of Health as a Network Service Technician 4 (NST4). ODH is where I really cut my teeth in the world of Cisco and Networking. Starting day 1 of this job we were presented with the opportunity to build an enterprise network with more than 200 WAN sites and 2000 LAN users spread across 2 buildings and 16 floors. After three and a half years of deployment, troubleshooting, expansion and way to much BS and politics I moved on. My next move was to Newcome Electronics Systems, where I spent two years . At NES I had the pleasure of working with customers ranging from K12 education, through Fortune 200 business and manufacturing customers.  Currently I am employed with Netech Corp out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.  This is a recent move for me and will position me in one of the Top Cisco VARs in the Eastern US.  I look forward to growing my Cisco experiance and re-visting technologies such as Cisco VOIP and CSS that have had several years to mature since the last time I used them.

It is my goal to bring innovative and economic solutions to my clients and the IT community as a whole.  I am glad you have found my little piece of the internet and I hope you will visit often to see what we have been up to.
